Rufus Wainwright
The son of Loudon Wainwright III and Katy McGarrigle. He was raised by McGarrigle in Montreal after his parents divorced.
He cut his musical teeth by writing musical parts for film soundtracks and performing with his mother's band. In the mid '90s he went solo, beginning in clubs in the local area. The first, eponymous, album was released in 1998. The second, Poses, followed in 2001. His latest offerings are entitled Want One and Want Two, released in late 2003.
